Why Now Is Prime Time for Direct Selling
This past Friday (June 24, 2011), this “Special Supplement to The Wall Street Journal by Direct Selling News” appeared in 1.2 million copies of the prestigious business bible.

The cover of the handsomely put together piece states,
“In 2010, direct selling companies generated over $125 billion in revenue in 150 countries through more than 75 million men and women who are changing lives serving others. This is the story of direct selling.”
More than worth-the-read, this is required reading for anyone already in or interested in Network Marketing Direct Sales.

The wealth-building attributes of Network Marketing – Richard Brooke
What follows is a piece John Fogg couldn’t include in his upcoming (July 2011) book, The Greatest Networkers in the World — 21 ordinary people who became millionaires in Network Marketing and the true stories of how they did it. The because is there just aren’t enough pages to include all the good & great stuff John got from his interviews with The Greatest Networkers.
This one is Richard Brooke speaking about the “wealth-building attributes of Network Marketing.” It’s included in the Audio Interviews (the clip is available to listen to, below) and the transcripts. It’s brilliant and a classic.

There just isn’t any other economic business vehicle where a person can get started for a few hundred or a thousand dollars, on a part-time basis and three or four years later, have a net worth— because of their residual income— in the millions.
Somebody goes to work on a part-time basis. Three or four years later, they’ve got a residual income of let’s just say $5,000 or $10,000. It’s residual, because of the way they built it and the company they built it in.
Residual meaning, if they chose to, or something happened in their life and they had to quit managing and driving the group, would their income at least stay the same?
Now in many organizations, many companies, it should grow. Why? Because at the lowest level in the geometric progressions, they haven’t built anything yet.
So if they start building out their next level, the organization just grew by three or four or five times. It should grow geometrically, but if just stayed flat, you would have residual income.
Five thousand dollars a month in residual income provides you with a net worth at today’s interest rates of $3-$4 million.
Under a normal interest rate scenario, at least $1 million. Ten thousand dollars a month, $2 million.
How do you equate that?
Well, how much rental real estate would you have to own, free and clear, no mortgages, to have rents net to you after management maintenance of $10,000 a month? You’d need at least $2 million worth of rental property if not $3 million or $4 million.
Or how much money would you need in equities, cash, bonds, dividend-paying stocks to get a five percent annual return? You’d need $2 million to get $10,000 a month.
Think about in the lifetime of people saving and investing and the risk in real estate and equities, the risk of investing in a company that one day “Forbes Magazine” and the President of the United States and “USA Today” and “Wall Street Journal” says is the next phenomenon in business.
Six months later they’re bankrupt, their stocks are not worth anything and people are going to jail. Think about the risks of investing in equities and real estate and how long it would take somebody to amass a fortune of $2 million.
For most people it would take a lifetime of discipline, sacrifice and very good timing and very good fortune.
You can do the same thing in four or five years in the right Network Marketing company with the right product, building it the right way.
Huge relationships with people, servant leadership, building an organization that at some point they don’t look to you anymore. They’re looking to themselves and they’re looking to their group. They may want you and appreciate you but they don’t need your leadership anymore.
When you’ve built that, you’ve built a net worth in the millions of dollars. There’s just no other way to do it in our society and our business model and our economy. It is light years more efficient and faster and more accessible to the masses than real estate or equities.
I just love the wealth-building attributes of Network Marketing.

Direct sales (like Avon, Mary Kay) offer recession-proof jobs – USA Today
Direct sales (like Avon, Mary Kay) offer recession-proof jobs
Updated 5/15/2009 1:30 PM |
By Charisse Jones, USA TODAY
_________________________
Not long ago, Craig Lapp made his living driving a truck that helped carve Southern California’s soil into new developments. But then housing sales slumped, and in November 2007 Lapp’s construction company let him go.
While he searched for another job, Lapp began working alongside his wife, Lynne, in a business based in their Temecula home, selling nutritional supplements made by the direct-sales company Isagenix. Nearly two years later and with no construction job in sight, Lapp says a one-time sideline has become the couple’s bread and butter.
“It’s paying our mortgage, our car payments … putting food on the table,” says Lapp, 55, who adds that he and his wife are earning a six-figure income. “It was our ‘Plan B’ that turned into our ‘Plan A.’ ”
Direct-sales businesses that rely on home-based representatives to peddle their wares are seeing their sales forces rapidly expand as the nation’s unemployment rate soars to nearly 9% and those who lost jobs and nest eggs look for new ways to make money.
“We’re recession-resistant in the sense that more people come to us during economic hard times for supplemental income or replacement of a lost job.”
— Neil Offen, president of the Direct Selling Association.
While 2008 industry figures aren’t yet available, “Anecdotally we’re hearing that recruitment is up and … unfortunately as the unemployment rate rises to 10% or higher, we’ll be picking up more people who need an income-earning opportunity.”
The recession has become a recruiting tool. An Avon (AVP) cosmetics representative declares in TV ads that…
“I can’t get laid off. It’s my business.”
Companies such as Isagenix, a marketer of weight-management and nutritional supplements and snacks, and jewelry maker Silpada Designs are coaching their representatives to spread the word that direct selling can keep you afloat in the faltering economy.
“Right now, our direct-selling opportunity is really the No. 1 product that we have to sell,”
— Geralyn Breig, president of Avon North America.
With that in mind, Avon this year launched its most ambitious recruitment campaign and saw its U.S. sales force grow to more than 680,000 through March, its largest ever, Breig says.
The same month, cosmetics company Mary Kay began airing its first TV ad for new representatives. In its first three days, visitors seeking information about becoming “beauty consultants” at MaryKay.com spiked 108%.
Silpada Designs, a Lenexa, Kan.-based company specializing in sterling silver jewelry, says its sales force in the U.S. and Canada was up 11.8% on May 1 from a year earlier. And Chandler, Ariz.-based Isagenix says its sales force was up 30% in March from a year before.
Direct selling is a fluid industry, with only 10% of representatives working “full time,” or at least 30 hours a week. Many work only long enough to meet short-term goals, such as holiday presents.

Millions of jobs lost, many may never return.
Even as the economy recovers, more people could face years out of work
Back a bit, Eric Worre, creator and star of NetworkMarketingPro.com, did this video below titled: Become a Network Marketing Pro. Solution for the Jobs Crisis.
Eric referenced a piece on MSNBC.com titled: Millions of jobs lost, many may never return. by Christopher S. Rugaber of The Associated PressHere’s the beginning of the article with a link to the complete piece.
WASHINGTON — Fewer construction workers will be needed. Don’t expect as many interior designers or advertising copywriters, either. Retailers will get by with leaner staffs.
The economy is strengthening. But millions of jobs lost in the recession could be gone for good.
And unlike in past recessions, jobs in the beleaguered manufacturing sector aren’t the only ones likely lost forever. What sets the Great Recession apart is the variety of jobs that may not return.
That helps explain why economists think it will take at least five years for the economy to regain the 8.2 million jobs wiped out by the recession — longer than in any other recovery since World War II.
It means that even as the economy strengthens, more Americans could face years out of work. Already, the percentage of the labor force unemployed for six months or longer is 4.3 percent. That’s the highest rate on records dating to 1948.

Direct Sales – a “Fabulous” Business Model
In this video CNBC’s popular Mad Money host Jim Cramer, reports that the direct selling model is going “great guns,” adding it could be the best way to sell goods in the Third World.
Cramer previously interviewed Rick Goings, CEO of Tupperware, who told him that women around the world had signed up in droves to be sales representatives for Tupperware products. The executive added that in this evironment, direct selling adds a personal touch and is more effective than traditional advertising. Being as people tend to listen more to testimonals rather than advertisements. Cramer thinks the direct selling model could be the best way to sell goods in the developing world.
Despite the good news for direct sellers, Cramer complained that these kinds of companies have never “gotten their due from Wall Street.” While people have acted as if the business model is “bogus”, Cramer thinks it’s actually fabulous.
“I think it’s time to recognize that the direct sales model works and works well,” Cramer said.

Is Network Marketing a Scam or a Scheme?
We originally posted this back on December 8 and just realized we’d made a mistake and had it set to “Private,” so… nobody could see it. Duh <smile>. We’re re-posting it here & now.
There’s a huge difference between Network Marketing and pyramid schemes. Here’s the truth.
By Michael L. Sheffield
____________________
Question: Some friends continue to try to recruit me into Network Marketing deals that seem like some type of money game or pyramid. Other friends tell me they’re illegal and I’ll get into trouble. How do I know what’s legal and legitimate?
Answer: To help you understand what Network Marketing is, I must first explain what it isn’t.
Network Marketing isn’t a pyramid scheme.
Pyramids are programs similar to chain letters where people just invest money based on the promise that other people will put in money that will filtrate back to them and somehow, they’ll get rich. A pyramid is strictly a money game and has no basis in real commerce. Normally, there’s no product involved at all, just money changing hands. Modern-day pyramids may have a product, but it’s clearly there just to disguise the money game.
Network Marketing is a legitimate business. First, it’s based on providing people with real, legitimate products they need and want at a fair price. While some people do buy cheap Motrin online make a lot of money through Network Marketing, their financial benefit is always the result of their own dedicated efforts in building an organization that sells real products and services.
Pyramids are illegal and are based on taking advantage of people. For a person to actually make money in a pyramid scheme, someone else has to lose money. But in Network Marketing, each person can multiply his or her efforts, skills and talents by helping others be successful.
Network Marketing has proved itself as part of the new economy and a preferred way to do business here and around the world.
Network Marketing isn’t about taking advantage of your friends and relatives.
Only a few years ago, Network Marketing meant retailing to, and sponsoring people from, your “warm list” of prospects. Although sharing the products or services and the opportunity with people you know is still the basic foundation of the business, today we see more people using sophisticated marketing techniques such as the Internet, conference calling and other long-distance sponsoring techniques to extend their network across the country and around the world.
Network Marketing isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme.
Of course some people do make large amounts of money very quickly. Many would say those people are lucky. But success in Networking isn’t based on luck. (Unfortunately, money won’t sprout wings and fly into your bank account no matter what someone has promised you.) Success in Network Marketing is based on following some very basic yet dynamic principles.
Now, let’s discuss what network marketing is.
Network Marketing is a serious business for serious people.
It’s a proven system where the design, creation and expense the corporate team has gone through becomes a road map for your own success. Just follow the simple, proven and duplicable system that the good companies provide.
The real key is this: Network Marketing is all about leverage.
You can leverage your time and increase the number of hours of work effort on which you can be paid by sponsoring other people and earning a small income on their efforts. Andrew Carnegie, who created one of the world’s greatest fortunes, said “I would rather make 1 percent on the efforts of 100 people than 100 percent on my own efforts.” This very basic concept is the cornerstone of Network Marketing.
For example, most successful people building a Network Marketing business do so in an organized method. They work a few dedicated hours each week, with each hour of effort serving as a building block for their long-term business growth. Then they sponsor other people and teach those people how to sell the company product and sponsor others who duplicate the process.
By helping the people you personally sponsor to sponsor others, you duplicate yourself. As this process continues, you create compound growth that can lead to hundreds or even thousands of people coming into your business. You leverage your time by helping others be successful and earn an income from all their efforts.
Network Marketing, has no big capital requirements, no geographical limitations, no minimum quotas required and no special education or skills needed.
Network Marketing is a low-overhead, home-based business that can actually offer many of the tax advantages associated with owning your own business.
Network Marketing is a people-to-people business that can significantly expand your circle of friends. It’s a business that enables you to travel and have fun as well as enjoy the lifestyle that extra income can provide.
Michael L. Sheffield is the founder of Sheffield Resource Network, a full-service multilevel marketing consulting firm in Tempe, Arizona. He is also the co-founder and chair of the Multi Level Marketing International Association (MLMIA), whose members represent companies throughout the world.

The Truth About the Money in MLM – Tim Sales
It’s said that a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. There is clearly some truth to that remark and it often shows up when people learn a little more about MLM Network Marketing. Two “cynical” questions consistently arise:
Are the people at the top making all of the money?
Do the people who get in at the beginning make all or most of the money?
Although as we said, these questions are “cynical,” for many people they are sincere & serious and need to be answered. One of the best people we know to do the answering is the creator of the Brilliant Compensation presentation, Tim Sales. Tim is a multi-million-dollar income earner who has become one of the preeminent trainers in the business. He is also one of our most pragmatic champions who explanations are clear & concise. Here’s Tim on a short 7 minute video with his answers to the questions above:

Network Marketing Gives You Significant Tax Advantages – Robert Kiyosaki
Redo, reiterate, renew, repeat, replay, replicate, reprise, rebroadcast, rerun, recycle. All to say that until the business beginning of January (the 3rd) will be reposting some of our best to date. Hope you enjoy our vacation <smile>.
Excerpted from Robert Kiyosaki’s terrific book, The Business of the 21st Century.
Tax Advantages— and the Lesson They Teach
People who are brand-new to Network Marketing are often quite surprised to learn about the significant tax advantages from having your own home-based business.
Most people have at least a vague idea that the rich enjoy all sorts of tax advantages that they themselves do not, but since they have lived their entire lives in the E [Employee] quadrant, they typically have no concept of what those advantages are or how they actually work. Therefore, people are often shocked to realize that they, too, can enjoy those very same tax advantages and put significant amounts of money in their pockets from the very first day of their new business.
With recent changes in tax policies and more insurance programs tailored for small businesses and the self-employed, it’s easier than ever before to create your own benefits package that rivals and even surpasses anything the standard big corporations could offer.
By starting a Network Marketing business in your spare time and keeping your regular job, you begin to get the tax advantages of the rich.
A person with a part-time [home] business can take can take more tax deductions than employees do.
____________________
And those deductions Robert is speaking about are not a few dollars here & there. They ARE significant. For most home-based business owners— even working part-time, they amount to a number of thousands of dollars (think $5000 or more). And that’s immediate money, not something you have to wait for.
There has never been a more important time to learn about and be open to the possibilities of Direct Sales MLM Network Marketing. It is The NEW American Dream.

The No. 1 Reason Americans Want to Work For Themselves
Redo, reiterate, renew, repeat, replay, replicate, reprise, rebroadcast, rerun, recycle. All to say that until the business beginning of January (the 3rd) will be reposting some of our best to date. Hope you enjoy our vacation <smile>.
Excerpted from Robert Kiyosaki’s book, The Business of the 21st Century.
Now that layoffs are rampant and everyone is worried about what the future holds, millions of people are soberly reevaluating their finances and realizing that if they want to have a secure future they can count on, they’re going to have to come up with a Plan B. People today are hungrier than ever to earn extra money, and because of that, they are more receptive and more inclined to open their minds to new avenues.
In fact, this was true even before recent economic meltdown. Ever since the 80′s, and especially since the turn of the century, the drive to control our own economic futures has been building. Here’s what the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said in 2007 report titled Work, Entrepreneurship and Opportunity in 21st Century America: “Millions of Americans are embracing entrepreneurship by running their own small businesses.
72 percent of all adult Americans would rather work for themselves than for a job, and 67 percent think about quitting their jobs “regularly” or “constantly.”
Now, I’m no economist, but I know someone who is: Paul Zane Pilzer.

Paul is a wiz kid, was Citibank’s youngest-ever vice president, and left the banking world to make millions going into business for himself. He’s had a few New York Times best-sellers, predicted the Savings & Loan crisis before it happened, and served as an economic advisor to two presidential administrations. He’s someone worth listening to.
Paul talks about a 180-degree shift in cultural values around the nature of career paths, with the conventional corporate-employee career structure giving way to the entrepreneurial path.
“The traditional wisdom in the second half of the 20th century,” says Paul, “was to go to school, get a good education, and go to work for a large company. The idea of going into business for yourself was most often regarded as risky. Admirable perhaps, but risky … and maybe a little crazy. Today it’s completely the other way around.
Paul’s right. That U.S. Chamber of Commerce report I mentioned also refers to a Gallup poll finding that 61 percent of Americans say they would prefer to be their own boss. Another poll, this one by the Fresno research firm Decipher, found that 72 percent of all adult Americans would rather work for themselves than for a job, and 67 percent think about quitting teir jobs “regularly” or “constantly.”
And it’s not just about making a living: it’s also about the quality of how we’re living.
People are waking up to the fact that they want more control over their lives. They want to be more connected to their families, be in charge of their own time, work from their homes, determine their own destinies.
In that Dicipher study, 84 percent of the respondents said they woud be more passionate about their work if they owned their own business. The No. 1 reason they gave for wanting to work for themselves?
“To be more passionate about my work life.”
What’s happening is that the 20th-century myth of job security, with it’s promise that the path to a long, happy fulfilling life is to find a job working for someone else is crumbling before our eyes.

“Yes, I think network marketing is the best system for the average person.
If in the corporate world you don’t sell within the first months, you’re fired. In Network Marketing they’ll work with you to achieve. What a deal that is! They will work with you to become free.
Isn’t that wonderful? That’s revolutionary.”

The Best Business Keeps Getting Better – Richard Brooke
“(MLM) is the best-kept secret in the business world.”
— Fortune magazine“Dollar for dollar, (MLM) is the best investment I’ve ever made.”
— Warren Buffet
It’s a grim economic picture these days. Businesses are downsizing, going virtual or going offshore and taking our jobs with them. That’s bad news. Making matters worse, the recession that is gripping our economy — while showing some signs of recovery — has hit many of us hard. The unemployment rate is hovering around 10 percent, a 26-year high. And there is a widening gap between the richest and poorest Americans as these rippling job layoffs ravage household budgets.
Not everybody is struggling. Many of us who have pursued Network Marketing have gone from relying on an employer to pay us and take care of our security, to us “getting it” that we are our only security.
What was once considered risky— starting your own business— is rapidly becoming known as the smartest way to reduce taxes, increase your income, build net worth and create free time.
So just how promising is Network Marketing? Could it be the answer to the financial security you’re looking for? And just as important, is this industry tested and proven?
To answer these questions, I’ve included a link to an educational and eye-opening video I recently recorded called The Four Year Career. It takes a good, hard look at this 60-year-old industry from an insider’s perspective as I explain the proven merits of the Network Marketing and how it can truly offer a viable solution to a lifetime of financial security.
I encourage you to take a few minutes and watch The Four Year Career because the truth is, for most of us, the traditional business approach is out of reach.
Why? Hundreds of thousands in start-up capital— all at risk and far more than a full-time effort with competitors around every corner. There are no solid mentors and no life beyond the business.
Network Marketing provides an alternative for those serious about their net worth and their freedom.
In his best-selling book, The Automatic Millionaire, David Bach says, “the beauty of this industry is that it’s all done for you. The only thing you need to do is find a reputable company — one that you trust, that offers a product or service you believe in and can get passionate about.”
Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad says, “you’re actually building an income-generating asset. Direct selling gives people the opportunity, with very low risk and very low financial commitment, to build their own income-generating asset and acquire great wealth.”
And what once may have been looked down upon as a peddler’s opportunity is now seen far differently by those that should know. In the past few years alone, Network Marketing has been showcased in Forbes, Fortune, USA Today, US News and World Report and the Wall Street Journal.
“The best-kept secret of the business world.” That’s how an article in Fortune magazine described Network Marketing in August 2004.
In 2002, Warren Buffet got many people’s attention when Berkshire Hathaway purchased a major Direct Sales company.
Buffet now owns three Direct Sales companies and has said, “dollar for dollar, it’s the best investment I’ve ever made.”
Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Records and a host of other Virgin companies, founded Virgin Cosmetics in the UK — a Direct Sales company. The list of major MLM investors reads like a who’s who: Bertelsmann, The Body Shop, Crayola, Hallmark Cards, Jockey, Nestle, Remington Industries, Sara Lee, Unilever and Time Warner.
In his most recent book, The Next Millionaires, Paul Zane Pilzer forecasts 10 million new millionaires in the U.S. over the next 10 years, and predicts many of them will be people who are getting involved in their own Network Marketing business now.
Network Marketing has grown every year for the past 20, jumping over 91 percent in just the past 10 years. Today, more than 40 million of us enjoy annual sales of $30 billion in the U.S. and $100 billion worldwide.
Every week, an average of 175,000 new people in the U.S., and an additional 300,000 worldwide, get their starter kit, learn their products and start offering their opportunity to others. Some will persevere with a personal vision of fun, health and abundance and go on to live extraordinary lives. Others will not harness this personal power and will move on. Either way, the opportunity to be part of a great movement in our country and the world is available to all of us.
We cannot deny that we are smack-dab in the middle of the opportunity to change our lives and the lives of our families for generations to come. Not just with the wealth we can create, but with the wisdom to live lives worthy of such abundance. What we do with it today, tomorrow and every day is entirely up to us. As good ol’ Henry Ford said profoundly: “If we think we can, we will. If we think we can’t, we won’t.”
It does not take a Ph.D to figure out how things won’t work for you. Actually, any idiot can decide that fate. It takes vision, courage and creativity to figure out every day how it will work for you.
Make it happen for yourself. Do it ANYWAY!
Richard B. Brooke
