Seth Godin is one of my heroes. In so many, many, instances, Seth’s writing cuts through the morass & misunderstanding of the world we live & work in with a uncanny precision & vision that makes things crystal clear. Especially “things” such as what can be done to change what’s not working for the better, perhaps forever.

In his latest book, Linchpin. Are You Indispensable? Mr. Godin makes a case for what’s not working in the world of work and why. Like this:

The system we grew up with is a mess. It’s falling apart at the seams and a lot of people I care about are in pain because the things we thought would work don’t. Everyday I meet people who have so much to give but have been bullied enough or frightened enough to hold it back. They have become victims, pawns in a senseless system that uses them up and undervalues them.

It’s time to stop complying with the system and draw your own map.

Stop settling for what’s good enough… Stop asking what’s in it for you and start giving gifts that change people. Then, and only then, will you have achieved your potential.

For hundreds of years, the population has been seduced, scammed, and brainwashed into fitting in, following instructions, and exchanging a day’s work for a day’s pay. That era has come to an end and just in time.

Seth goes on to say that we have an opportunity today to change our lives for the better. He is NOT making a case for MLM Network Marketing. From my conversations with Seth I believe (unless he’s changed his “worldview”) he has not held our profession in the highest esteem. I don’t think he fully understands us, because without intending to, I believe he IS making a case for Network Marketing as one of the options to choose from.

The Take-Care-of-You-Bargain
Here’s the deal our parents signed us up for:

Our world is filled with factories. Factories that make widgets and insurance and Web sites, factories that make movies and take care of sick people and answer the telephone. These factories need workers.

If you learn how to be one of these workers, if you pay attention in school, follow instructions, show up on time, and try hard, we will take care of you. You won’t have to be brilliant or creative or take big risks.

We will pay you a lot of money, give you health insurance, and offer you job security. We will cherish you, or at the very least, take care of you.

It’s a pretty seductive bargain.

So seductive that for a century, we embraced it. We set up our schools and our systems and our government to support the bargain.

It worked. The Fortune 500 took care of us. The teachers’ union took care of us. The post office and the local retailer took care of us. We followed the instructions, we washed the bottles, we showed up on time, and in return, we got what we needed. It was the American Dream. For a long time it worked.

But in the face of competition and technology, the bargain has fallen apart.

Job growth is flat at best.

Wages in many industries are in a negative cycle.

The middle class is under siege like never before, and the future appears dismal. People are no longer being taken care of— pensions are gone; 401(k)s have been sliced in half; and it’s hard to see where to go from here. You might be the hard working secretary, the one with the institutional knowledge, the person who has given so much and deserves security and respect. And while you might deserve these things, your tenure is no guarantee that you’re going to get them.

Suddenly, quite suddenly in the scheme of things, it seems like the obedient worker bought into a sucker’s deal. The educated, hardworking masses are still doing what they’re told, but they are no longer getting what they deserve.

This situation presents a wonderful opportunity.

Yes, it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to actually enjoy what you do, to make a difference to your colleagues and your customers, and to unlock the genius you’ve been hiding all these years.

It’s futile to work hard at restoring the take-care-of-you bargain. The bargain is gone, and it’s not worth whining about and it’s not effective to complain. There’s a new bargain now…

Again, to be clear, Seth Godin DOES NOT directly endorse MLM Network Marketing. That said, there’s a lot we ARE by design & on purpose that’s right up his alley.

What Seth presents is a picture of the “American Dream” that is past tense. “The bargain,” and the systems and structures and people and ideas that have supported it, “has fallen apart.”

Three years ago I put together a book titled, It’s Time… For Network Marketing*. It was, alas, at least as indicated by its lack of acceptance & sales success, ahead of it’s time. Perhaps no longer.

It is clearly time for a NEW American Dream.

And although not for everybody, for millions of people “…who have so much to give but have been bullied enough or frightened enough to hold it back.” Who, “have become victims, pawns in a senseless system that uses them up and undervalues them.”

The NEW American Dream can be found in Network Marketing.

However you want to define the American dream, there is not much of it that’s left anymore.

Wherever you choose to look— at the economy and jobs, the public schools, the budget deficits, the nonstop warfare overseas— you’ll see a country in sad shape.

Standards of living are declining, and American parents increasingly believe that their children will inherit a very bad deal.

We’re in denial about the extent of the rot in the system, and the effort that would be required to turn things around. It will likely take many years, perhaps a decade or more, to get employment back to a level at which one could fairly say the economy is thriving.

…The human suffering in the years required to recover from the recession will continue to be immense. And that suffering will only be made worse if the nation embarks on a misguided crash program of deficit reduction that in the short term will undermine any recovery, and in the long term will make true deficit reduction that much harder to achieve.

The wreckage from the recession and the nation’s mindlessly destructive policies in the years leading up to the recession is all around us. We still don’t have the money to pay for the wars that we insist on fighting year after year. We have neither the will nor the common sense to either raise taxes to pay for the wars, or stop fighting them…

America will never get its act together until we recognize how much trouble we’re really in, and how much effort and shared sacrifice is needed to stop the decline. Only then will we be able to begin resuscitating the dream.

You can wait for the U$ Government to “fix” all that’s broken, or take the responsibility for your life & work into your own hands. There has never been a better nor more important time to take a sincere & serious look at Direct Sales MLM Network Marketing. It’s NOT te only way. We just don’t know a better one.

Last night, Sunday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. ET/PT, CBS’ 60 Minutes aired the piece, “Scott Pelley reports from Newton, Iowa, where the closing of an appliance factory is causing a negative effect on the community’s economy.”

“Although the segment focused on “the eve of the midterm elections” & “the ‘Great Recession’,” and the challenges churning in the wake of Maytag closing it’s factory (along with 2,500 jobs) and moving to Mexico— perhaps it’s most significant message is that the way we’ve worked in the past isn’t working anymore.

This isn’t a recession— not even THE Great Recession. This is a fundamental change in the way our world works and the world of work works.

MLM Network Marketing is not the ONLY answer. It’s just that we don’t know of a better one. Please, check it out. It may be what you’ve been looking for your entire life— and there will never be a better time than now.

While the news media is filled with stories of jobs being downsized, CEOs jumping out with golden parachutes, and average employees’ pensions being dismantled and disappearing… it might leave someone to think that all is doom and gloom.

That may be so with business as usual, but thousands of people every day are building what we call their “retirement insurance policy” using Network Marketing.

Do well here, and you’ll be rewarded over and over. The luxury of leverage— residual income from compound effort— will always be a better deal than trading your time for dollars.

I love the fact that when I am working with a distributor on my team, I get what I want by helping them get what THEY want. That’s true “win-win.”

I love the opportunity that introducing someone to this industry provides me. People come to Network Marketing with their hopes and dreams in fragile glass jars. Often, their ability to dream has been shadowed by the disappointments they’ve had in life. However, there is no price you can put on the feeling you get when someone you introduced to this business has the light switch turned on.

This is an industry that inspires and encourages you to become your best self and live your best life; when we all use our natural talents in a team environment with a common vision, magical things happen

This country was built on free enterprise and that’s what MLM offers.

Wow, even before the Website officially “opened,” people found their way here AND we’ve even received two eMails asking about the American Flag jacket John’s wearing in the Welcome video. Just in case you’ve had that thought, too, here’s the deal:

John got his more than 15 years ago from Limited Edition, Ltd., then out of San Francisco. His memory (a tad questionable, he says <smile>) is he paid close to $200 for it. Crazy person that he is, he wore it to Russia in 1997 (and returned home safely).

Limited Edition, Ltd. is no more BUT it seems they have an heir apparel (cute) in FlagClothes.com out of Navoto, California (and the copyright on the site reads Limited Edition, Ltd.). John said, “The jacket is the exact same design. If it’s as well made as mine— and it seams (oh stop!) to be the same— it’s a steal at only $75.” The jacket is currently “Out of stock,” but the website says they are accepting reservations.
